Community Intervention Service

The goal of our community intervention service is, wherever possible, to stop people from having to go into hospital. Two community intervention service teams work across Suffolk, with one based in the east and one in the west. They work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Typical tasks include giving intravenous antibiotics, managing patients who are at risk of developing thrombosis, giving vital timed drugs, dealing with blocked catheters, delivering extra pain relief to people who are at the end of their life; and advanced wound care. The clinical lead for the west service is the SCH Nurse Consultant, who provides specialist nursing expertise and advice in advanced clinical practice.

Our Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease team is also part of CIS. This team works to improve the lives of people with this disabling condition, especially through the use of therapy and exercise to help them stay at home and manage their illness.
